Yes, the tide is turning.
First the commercial dog food and veterinarian associations, fought a hard campaign against natural canine diet.
They used scare tactics about how unhealthy it is for dogs to eat in the way God intended LOL !!
( or if you don't believe in God insert science and a canines biological make up)
Come on Dogs were NEVER made to eat the processed crappola thats in commercial Dogs FOOD, whether its a $20 a bag or $100 bag. You know that. ;-)
So now we see dog food manufacturer after dog food manufacturer, coming out with raw food diets. SHOCKING?
Nope, its just that they lost the debate. Facts Rule.
Dogs do best on a natural diet.
Most allergies, skin issues, digestive problems can be associated with processed foods. People smartened up.
And thats why supermarkets now have refrigerator sections filled with raw food choices.
At Aunt Lyn's we do keep on hand, pre-made burgers that a local poultry farm began making for local breeders, trainers, and show dogs.
These are made to mimic the requirements of meat to bone ratio, offer a variety such as rabbit, chicken, duck, turkey and have whether you choose veggie free or with veggie the content is minimal. ( because dogs can to process not do they need human veggie amount, they are carnivores)
Local Sourcing is unlike what is found in the supermarket, holistic boutiques or big box pet stores, these local source foods have no preservatives.
Preservatives that those other store, need to have due to shipping and storage.
Local is all natural and that's a huge plus.
After all-we are choosing natural, in order to get away from preservatives, dyes, fillers, and unnatural food sources. Right?
So we recommend that store brands NOT be used, except for occasional convenience, every once in a while but not as the main diet source.
But what about places like we mentioned above, our local poultry farm, making fresh pre-made burger or online places that are preservative free, ship fresh and without preservatives ?
Well local pre-made has more positives but also negatives. They can be a great convenience, though costly, but more so, they miss many of the important needs that fresh raw bone provides.
Our Dogs get more than just nutrition from raw meaty bones, they receive mental and physical exercise, as they chew and figure out how to eat the " prey" .
A chicken leg or turkey neck is not just sustenance and part of their natural diet - its ENJOYED!
More than that, the chewing of the bones keeps the teeth free of plaque, the gums healthy and do we need to mention the colon and anal sacs? lol
Why should we use plastic processed and many times chemically manufactured fake bones and dental chews ....
WHEN NATURE PROVIDED DOGS WITH A BUILD IN CLEANER - IN THEIR NATURAL DIET.
Pretty silly to buy fake - when natural works better and healthier than any of the packaged products. Right?
Yes the bones that dogs self grind, also naturally express the anal sacs and does much more to keep the digestive system healthy.
Plus providing a natural source of easily digestible and beneficial Calcium that our dogs need.
Additionally, most of the online flash frozen, preservative free, raw dog food manufacturers, a have little to no bone or the wrong source of bone. Plus they all seem to have to much vegetable which nutritionally is empty for a dog ( yep filler)
So basically process ground meats even those that contain some bone bits, just do not provide what our dogs need.
In closing, though we DO source fresh, preservative free, local burgers and recommend places that flash freeze and ship if you MUST....
WE REALIZE and tell our clients- there is NOTHING BETTER THAN REAL NATURAL DIET and Frankly Nothing EASIER.
Finally in the long run, cheaper than commercial pet food overall and in the money you save on vet bills.
Hope this post has helped you and answered a few questions, if you have more questions you can always set up a free consult with Aunt Lyn here -
TIP: When feeding a kibble diet (and we hope you aren't )or when feeding commercial raw products or home cooked that likewise does not contain the much needed bone calcium...Consider treating midday between meals a raw chicken wing or leg ( depending on your dogs size)
Check out Aunt Lyn's Stop The Scoots Calcium Supplement, its natural organic eggshell with added antioxidant herbs, that make it easily absorbed -as a fine calcium source and also will prevent colon and anal sac issues. Should be used when natural raw bone is not in the diet.
Additionally, many clients give there dogs eggs for the beneficial nutrients but forget without the eggshell calcium can be depleted from the dogs bone in order to balance out the magnesium and potassium, contained in the yoke.
So grab some Stop the Scoots Calcium Supplement and sprinkle it on!
