Meat ( for the pot) :
ADD 6-8 Chicken Thighs -Bone in - Skin On
Organic is Best . Antibiotic and Hormone Free are Second Best.
Truth -anything is better than the meat they use in commercial.
So Do what you Can afford. We use Chicken Thighs as a Staple because;
- It's comparably inexpensive.
- Few dogs have intolerances with Chicken
Though Chicken is listed as High Intolerance that is based on Commercial – Processed Dog Food that is highly chemical laden. Fresh is entirely different.
People are always shocked when they have gotten their dog tested and are told he/she has a chicken allergy AND YET no reaction to our recipes.
- Chicken Thighs have a large bone which provides lots of collagen and vitamins and forms a potent Collagen broth.
- If you are not doing RAW and then your dog is not getting the much-needed bone, this “helps” towards offsetting the nutritional deficit. Aunt Lyn’s Stop the Scoots -Calcium, provides the addition, easily digestible organic bone, in the form of a powder.
FYI- they were getting a deficit in Calcium, while eating commercial Dog Food also . All commercial Dog Food Wet/Dry - is cooked to ash- in order to form, and the nutrition levels of vitamins are listed - before its cooked. So the nutrition content listed on the packaging - is cut by a half or more.
So if you are still doing commercial dog food - Consider adding Collagen Broth
and Aunt Lyn's Stop the Scoots
to prevent arthritis. inflammation or other injury!
ADD 4-6 oz Cows Liver sliced
counts as both red meat and organ meat use ether-but NOT both, in one cooking. *Try to alternate -variety is important! TIP: We like to use red meat in their Stew and give frozen liver slices as treats!
*If your market does not have always – they will at holiday time
ADD Chicken or Turkey Giblets -a few spoons
-try to stock up and freeze and add in when you can! Purdue sells in pints.
* NEWBIE NOTE:
ADD 6-oz Red Meat 15% fat or more - chopped ground meat ( organic or without hormone or antibiotics)
All good healthy fat a dog needs. Without Good Fat, the coat dulls – Eye issues can occur….
Remember the epidemic of Pancreatitis stems from the repurposed grease used to preserve commercial dog food both wet and dry. NOT Quality MEAT.
ADD Eggs 1-2 Hard Boiled
use only (1) Meat ( Chicken ) to intro -when first starting to Home cook.
Unless you know your Dog loves both – most do – then jump right in.
But if you do not know your dogs reaction - go slow -This way you can Journal and make sure each ingredient agrees with your dog.
+Other meats, and the much-needed organ meat ( liver or giblets )- can be introduced later.
+When introducing, give one new ingredient ( liver ) for 1 week.
+Sometimes it takes a week to see if any disagreement, also at times a soft stool at the beginning works itself out. So always give time – do not switch or stop.
